The Scafell Sky Race™ is a non vetted race, moving across very technical Lake Distirct terrain. Make no mistake, just because this race is not vetted, doesn't mean to say it isn't highly technical and demanding and therefore it will still require great skill as a mountain runner to tackle, attempt and complete. You will need to be able to confidently move across technical and demanding mountain terrain. Whilst competitor safety is our top priority, and we will have done everything possible to ensure safe completion of the race, your safety is ultimately your own individual responsibility, as it is on any adventure into mountainous terrain.
Although it is a 'non-vetted' race, we still expect you to be more than just a trail runner and suggest you tackle routes such as the Keswick Mountain Festival 25km or Keswick Mountain Festival 50km Ultra races before attempting the Scafell Sky Race™. A season racing the 'Long' Category Fell Races will put you in very good stead to complete this race in a good time and make sure you don't end up stopping too long in the Old DG, before catching a lift back on the regular bus service.
In the dry the route is very runnable, but once its wet, this course will be extremely slippy and hard to run across. Don't forget you are crossing the highest Mountain Massif in England, which is in itself highly technical and rocky, plus much of the single track in the first half is very rocky and slippy when wet. Please do not come under prepared physically or mentally.
Of course you will have to sign a 'Declaration' to make sure you are accepting of the terrain, weather conditions that can be apparent even in July in the Lake District and of course to clarify that your ability is up to scratch.
Skyrunning is all about 'Where the Mountains meet the Sky' and this is certainly true about this race.
If you are building up for the Lakes Sky Ultra™ or other similar races, this is the perfect race to pitt yourself against the mountains and hone your skills to a higher degree.
If this is the type of race you aspire to, then you have certainly picked the right one to train towards.
WARNING: COMPETITORS WHO ARE FOUND TO HAVE DELIBERATELY MISLED THE RACE DIRECTORS WILL BE EXPELLED FROM THE RACE AND ALL FUTURE ASSOCIATED RACES.
Entering Scafell Trail Race™ indicates that you accept full responsibility for your own safety or any injury sustained during the race. Please ensure that you have read the Safety page and race rules & declaration page before entering the race.
